Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain above sea level with a height of 8848.86m(29,031.7 ft), located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas.
The Everest region has been valued as the key to the evolutionary history of the Earth and is also a habitat for some rare and endangered species like the snow leopard, red panda, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, and Himalayan wolves. An alpine cushion plant called Arenaria is known to grow below 5,500 meters (18,000 ft) in the region. Euophrys omnisuperstes, a minute black jumping spider, has been found at elevations as high as 6,700 meters (22,000 ft), possibly making it the highest confirmed non-microscopic permanent resident on Earth.
